How do I set up the Confluence integration?
Initial sync: 2-5 minutes
Updates: Real-time via webhooks
Steps
- Go to Integrations in Brief
- Find Confluence and click Connect
- Authorize Brief in Atlassian's OAuth flow
- Select Confluence site — Choose which site to connect (if you have multiple)
- Done! Brief starts syncing
What if my workspace requires admin approval?
Some Atlassian workspaces require admin approval for third-party apps.
If Admin Approval Required
- You'll see a message during OAuth: "Admin approval required"
- Ask your Atlassian workspace admin to approve Brief
- Admin approves in: Atlassian Admin Console → App Management → Pending Requests
- Once approved, reconnect in Brief
What Happens Next
After connecting:
- Initial sync — Brief fetches recent pages (2-5 minutes)
- Content analysis — Strategy agent extracts goals and decisions
- Webhook registration — Brief subscribes to page updates
- Continuous sync — Updates automatically as pages are edited
Does Confluence work better with Jira?
Yes, Confluence and Jira are often used together. When you connect both:
- Brief cross-references work items with strategy docs
- Better understanding of "why" behind the work
- Decisions linked to epics and tickets
Common Issues
Why does it say "Admin approval required"?
Your Atlassian workspace requires admin approval for new apps. Ask your Atlassian admin to approve Brief in the admin console under App Management → Pending Requests.
Why does it say "Token expired"?
Atlassian OAuth tokens expire hourly but auto-refresh automatically. If issues persist after 5 minutes, disconnect and reconnect.
Why did it connect to the wrong Confluence site?
You connected to the wrong Atlassian site during OAuth. Disconnect in Brief, then reconnect and select the correct Confluence site.
Why aren't any pages syncing?
Your Confluence site may have no content or Brief may lack permissions. Check that Brief has read access to spaces in Confluence settings.
How long does setup take?
Initial setup takes about 30 seconds for the OAuth flow. The initial sync takes 2-5 minutes to fetch your pages and content. Updates happen in real-time via webhooks.
How does Brief identify decisions?
Brief automatically identifies ADRs (Architecture Decision Records) and important product decisions by analyzing page structure, titles, and content patterns. These become searchable via Brief chat.
