SharePoint Integration

Connect Microsoft SharePoint to Brief to extract strategic context and product documentation from your document libraries.

Last updated: July 5, 2026

SharePoint gives Brief access to the product documentation and strategy docs living in your Microsoft 365 document libraries. It's the Microsoft equivalent of connecting Google Drive — read-only, so Brief never edits or moves anything.

What data does Brief extract?

  • Document Libraries — Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files stored in SharePoint
  • Strategy Documents — Roadmaps, PRDs, and planning docs Brief recognizes as strategic context
  • File Metadata — Titles and modification dates for everything Brief can see

Why should I connect SharePoint to Brief?

Strategic Context

Brief reads your product strategy, roadmaps, and planning docs directly from SharePoint, so agents and teammates stay aligned on what's already been decided.

One Search Across Your Docs

Once connected, SharePoint content becomes searchable through Brief chat alongside your other connected sources — no more digging through nested libraries.

Read-Only by Design

Brief only reads from SharePoint. It never creates, edits, or deletes files, so there's nothing to review before you connect.

How do I set up this integration?

Setup time: 1-2 minutes
Initial sync: 2-5 minutes (depends on library size)
Updates: Synced automatically as new activity is detected

Steps

  1. Go to Integrations in Brief
  2. Find SharePoint and click Connect
  3. Sign in with your Microsoft 365 account
  4. Grant permissions — Approve Brief's read access to your document libraries
  5. Done! Brief starts syncing

There's no extra scoping step after sign-in — once you approve access, Brief starts indexing.

What happens after I connect?

After connecting:

  1. Initial scan — Brief indexes accessible document libraries (2-5 minutes)
  2. Content extraction — Brief reads Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files for strategic context
  3. Strategy tagging — Documents that look like strategy docs get flagged for the same treatment as your other sources
  4. Continuous sync — New and updated files are picked up automatically

Permissions & Privacy

What Brief Can Access

  • Document libraries you have permission to view — Brief inherits your Microsoft 365 permissions; it can't see anything you can't
  • File metadata — Names and modification dates

What Brief Cannot Access

  • Files outside your permissions — Brief never bypasses SharePoint access controls
  • Write actions — Brief cannot create, edit, or delete anything in SharePoint
Microsoft 365 Admins: Some organizations restrict third-party app access to Microsoft Graph. You may need admin approval before Brief can connect.

Common Issues

"Admin approval required" during setup

Cause: Your Microsoft 365 admin restricts third-party app access to Graph data Fix: Ask your admin to approve Brief's access in the Microsoft 365 admin center, then reconnect.

Why aren't any files syncing?

Cause: Brief only sees what your Microsoft 365 account has permission to view Fix: Check that you have access to the relevant document libraries in SharePoint. Brief can't request broader access than your own account has.

"Files not updating"

Cause: Sync delay or a temporary Microsoft Graph API issue Fix: Give it a few minutes. If files still aren't updating, disconnect and reconnect the integration.
